“Beloved, if God loved us, we ought also to love one another.”
1 John 4:11
The Outreach Committee at Harundale Presbyterian Church encourages the whole congregation to welcome everyone into our church home. We try to instill a “welcoming environment” for all of our visitors and members of our congregation. You can see evidence in our Welcome banner in the Narthex (above) and a planter of beautiful flowers by the back door.
Directional signs inside and outside the church will soon be installed to help visitors and members find their way into and around our church more easily.
Every Sunday a member of the congregation greets visitors at the Welcome Station in the Church’s Narthex entry. Our visitors receive a folder containing information about our church and a small gift, recently, an angel pin. We also contact visitors who sign the Friendship pads or Pew cards during the Sunday service.
Prospective church members meet with the Outreach Committee at our Inquirer’s luncheon where they find out more about Bible study classes, Presbyterian Women, church music groups and other opportunities. When new members join the church, Outreach pins a corsage on them, so the entire congregation can easily identify and welcome them to Harundale’s membership.
Each Spring, the Outreach Committee sponsors a dinner that honors members of our church for their dedication and service to the Lord through their involvement in activities of the church. The “Unsung Saints Awards” are a highlight to the church life of HPC. The names of the honorees are kept secret until the night of the dinner, when a tribute of their involvement is read and their names are revealed. Our “Unsung Saints” for 2007 are Carolyn Kellner and Bill & Sue Copes. We’re very proud of this tradition and all of the Unsung Saints who have been honored over the years.
Finally, to make HPC’s activities known throughout the community, Outreach is charged to publicize upcoming events and special services, to create business cards and flyers providing information about the church and to discover ways to encourage the community to come to Harundale Presbyterian Church. Many of our neighbors in the surrounding communities will soon receive a door-hanger announcing our new Pastor’s arrival and the schedule for our upcoming Christmas events and services.
We pray that everyone who enters our church feels that Harundale is a welcoming, caring church.
